Moving Cattle into another herd

need a bit of advice here

my neighbour has 3 suckler cows running on about 15 acres
it's a complete hobby for him in his latter years

he has one field that's complete limestone rock underneath - one of these fields that can't get wet.

anyway he is not that bothered about this field too much (can't be mowed/topped as it's all rock stickin up) & has offered it to me when the weather is bad - he said let your cattle in whenever you want & save your own grass til weather clears again. with the last few years i draw the few bales he makes, tags the calves etc small stuff i don't mind doin as he was good to my own folks years ago

anyway this field bounds me & twould be like gold with the current weather

if i wanted to move my suck cows&calves in there 3-4 times a year i would have to do a movement form each time to be above board

would this only draw attention onto me &him from the dept?
when i go to sell my weanlings would they have 3-4 movements and get knocked on price.?

nice offer but is it more hassle than it's worth?

    thoughts appreciated

    Move away,should be no panic.

This may seem the simple answer but I certainly don't think it's the 'proper' answer. You were on track with your own thoughts as I understand things.

OP is your neighbour claiming entitlements on the field?
If not then you could do a theoretical rental agreement to cover your animals on it as long as any gates from it onto his land are locked.

Even if your neighbour is claiming entitlements you can rent it off him for three months of the year with no issues on his entitlements. I know it's at least three months might be longer. Wouldn't have to be market value rent what ever he decides to charge you is his business but it would be better then the movements which would be a disaster for your animals.you need to fill in movements if his cattle are mixed with yours.
