No it's common practice your new car obviously has a higher value or could be a higher risk but 124 euros sounds high..

The car is a huge factor in calculating the premium. By changing car you're altering things so a change in premium makes perfect sense.

They're probably also including a small admin fee in that to.

Must be with 123.ie. They charge an arm and leg for bleedin' everything.

It's not just one insurance company that charges when you change your car mid policy, some will also charge you an administration fee on top of the premium increase too. If the new car is of higher value or more powerful, etc then it does effect the premium otherwise we would all go out and buy a 10 year old Micra and change it for a Porsche a week later.

How long to the insurance renewal? I changed car recently but was only charged about 10 euro as my insurance was up the following month.

i.e. that translates as 120 euro extra had i changed shortly after renewing my previous car insurance.

A lot of people back in the day got the disc and never sent payment. The disc was legit and in the window, meaning you could easily fly under the radar of a passive check on insurance. Hence why insurance companies have to cover their back, its not a personal attack, the call is likely recorded and admissible so they have to say it.

Of course it would never work the other way! You'd be waiting for your refund!

Actually, nope. I've had refunds, without issue when moving/changing details.

Or at least no additional charge, in my case- but it all depends on the length to next renewal and if the new car has a serious impact on insurance cost

Funny enough when I added a learner driver to my policy as named driver I thought it was going to cost more, but I got a refund on the policy of nearly 100 euro. I was told on the phone at the time that it has to do with statistical risks.

EDIT: post posted before i finished sorry using my phone.

So refunds do happen I also got a refund moving from Dublin 15 to Co. Meath about 70 euro last year.
