Old man's NCT is up a few mths. I have it booked in now and I have the email confirmation for him. Is he still at risk of receiving a fine & points if he drives the car in the run up to the test ?

Ads all over the radio at the moment warning about this 3 points and a fine.

Print out the confirmation and carry it with him, if it is in decent condition and not driving on slick tyres and has all light bulbs working there should be less chance of a Garda giving points.

"At risk"- yes-but keep the notification in the car - if all else looks OK with the car, there might be some leeway- when you say "old man", is he REALLY old? :
This might help on the day also i.e. "that interwebbook think, I can't get to grips with it at all at all" :D

Yep, I gave it to him to carry in the car. And he's a new hip recipient at a spritely 78 ;)

So you had the booking confirmed with documented proof and you were still done?

Happened to me twice waiting on my nct. Showed the guard the confirmation and a recent service report and they were both happy enough with that.

I'd imagine most guards would use their discretion though there's always one.

    Yup

Although before the new rule came in, I was in court for no NCT and it was thrown out because I had it booked at the time.

It's hit and miss but a bad Garda will do ya for it!

If your driving a car with no nct and are stopped at a garda checkpoint can the Gardaí seize the car there and then? Any answers appreciated.

    Firstly zombie thread.
Secondly as the car us not road legal then yes they can and they can also issue (rightly) penalty points.
