Has anyone ever been asked to do a SWOT analysis on themselves as part of career development meetings with their direct manager?

If so, any good advice or tips to help get me started?

Also, can anyone point me in the direction of any good templates online I could use?

    Thanks in advance.

Maybe I'm missing something but it's pretty straightforward. Get a page. Divide it in four (you could do up a table in word if you like) then do up four headings - strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

    S
What do you do well, skills you bring to the job

    W
What could you improve on. What are your weak points

    O
What events/training etc are coming up in work that you coud avail of, network at etc

    T
What would make your skills obsolete. Etc

    This is a great website

Basic guideline is strenghths and weaknesses are what you have, opportunities and threats are what you cn use, e.g. training to get better and what others have that may threaten your position

Thanks for the replies and I will review that website in detail.

I suppose where I'm stuck is writing up the weaknesses and threats. I generally skim over the weakness question at any interview and probably not something I am very comfortable highlight to my boss. I need to get my head around the threats section as it's not something I have really ever thought of before in any role.

It's not weaknesses in your per se, it's areas that your current job hasn't really allowed you to progress in.

Can anyone advise what would be a sufficient amount of points for each heading?
