Do I need to buy a car younger than 10 years?

I heard that most insurance companies won't insure a learner driver on a car that's older than 10 years. Is this true? A number of people have said it to me but I cannot find anything online mentioning it.

A friend of mine is running into that issue at the moment. It sounds like another way some insurers use to tell learners to pfo. Probably nothing official in terms and conditions, just 'happens'.

It will be cheaper with a newer car and some insurance companies may not give you a quote, last year I paid 1570, now after 1 year I paid 921 on my full licence. I did get quoted 1700 from Liberty and over 3,200 from 123.ie this year, but checked the AA and they where the best. Axa weren't far behind.

I think it's more the car than you being a learner and the liability of 2 might make to high a risk. Test the AA quote thing and others some will still insure you.

My car is an 01 1.4 litre.

    Yeah, gotcha.
Was the 1570 as a learner or on a full license?

It was a learner, the car issue is cars 15 years and older if your only gonna have the car for a year or 2 your best get a 9 or 10 year old car that you might and it won't bother you too much.

If you can afford a newer car then get one it will definitely lower the premium.
