Proof of payment for landlord

I am moving out of my rental accommodation and the landlord has requested proof of my having paid my water bill. The bill is in my name therefore I don't feel I am obliged to to provide this information to a third party. Their fear is that they will be left liable in the event that it wasn't paid, is this the case?

Lads, I need a reply to this the landlord is holding my deposit to ransom at the moment which means i have no money to put down a deposit on a new home which effectively renders me homeless as and from Friday. RESPONSE PLEASE!

    Hi Bendihorse,

Thanks for your patience as we investigated your query.

If you contact Irish Water on 1890 448 448 the day you move, we will update your account details to ensure accurate billing for the period of time you were living in the property. If there are unpaid charges remaining when Irish Water update your account, they stay with the customer rather than the property.

Once you contact Irish Water on the day you move, the onus is no longer on you to pay future water charges for the property as we will update your account details to reflect that you no longer live there. Landlords will not be liable for tenants’ water charges once they or their authorised agents have provided Irish Water with details of the occupiers of their rental properties.

We hope that you find the above information helpful. If there's anything else that we can help you with, please don't hesitate to let us know.

    Kind regards,
    Amy.
