    Email received from Hertz.

Gold members get an extra week to enjoy extra savings of up to 25%. It is a great way to ensure you get the best pick of cars when you plan your autumn escape.

To take advantage of this exclusive offer and enjoy savings of up to 25%, simply use CDP# 809596 and make sure you book by the 30th September 2015 for a minimum of 3 days, allowing you to pick up between now and 20th March 2016.

You may need to register for a Hertz Gold Plus - it's free and makes collection more straightforward anyhow.

Don't forget www.carhireexcess.com for your additional excess cover - much better value than Hire Company rate.

Hope it's of use to someone.

    Hi
Just wondering how the car hire excess insurance works with hertz?
I know if I try to wave the hertz daily insurance they tell me that they will need to freeze a large amount on my credit card instead. Do they let me off this if I have the carhireexcess insurance?

    Thanks

Unfortunately not - the Car Hire Excess insurance allows you to recover any excess you have to pay (obviously subject to T&C) but Hertz are not party to that and you have to pay them, hence they will block out your card.

Unfortunately only way around that is to pay for their full protection which is quite pricey but if you damage the car then you have no liability - they might still block something for fuel charges anyhow!

What is a large amount? Most I've had was €250 and that was for a van rental.

Was in Italy last year and it was €1750 as far as I can remember . Couldn't believe it was so expensive . Bring a spare credit card with you!

In Germany it was €800 or €500 with partial cover or €150 with full cover.

It's a minimum 3 day hire in a given period.

Also only available to Gold Plus members - did you log in as a member or join 1st?

    Worked for me.

I'm booking a car for 5 days so that wasn't the issue . I'm not a member so joined first. I'll give it another go tonight after work.

I'm getting that NRX144 error also, signed up this morning and logged in as gold member. Trying to rent for 3 days.

I don't think the gold membership is fully activated until you show your credit card and licence at a branch for your first rental... according to their email. This is probably the reason for the error

    Thanks OP!

Finally cracked it after about an hour. If you register and try booking the car when logged in there is no option to enter CPD code and you get a crazy rate (about X4 times standard rate). If you don't log in and proceed with your booking you enter CPD code and then all your details etc and you get the discount
