Hi, have a JCB 3CX clearing around the place. When finishin up Sat eve the water was boiling out of the filler cap. Today I topped it up and started hoping to check if the fan or somethin was not working. But she only started for a couple of seconds. Sounds bad.

Suggestions?? How to diagnose the problem??

It is an old one 1987

It's turning over fine and started after but cut out again. It has the extra dig and the front has the grab. I may be out with the yr a bit. Fairly sure it is a 3CX sitemaster for memory changing the king post couple yrs ago

It been suggested the head gasket or head itself may be cracked, letting water in. Therefore wont start but turning over fine. Any suggestions how to diagnose this?

check the thermostat is opening, boil the kettle and put the thermostat into the water.is the waterpump turning/pumping?,a neighbour had the same probs as you it turned out to be the fan belt had broken but you would see it wasn't charging.also if you think its head gasket related it is mixing water with the oil in the sump?.

the 3cx model came out in 1981 so its a 3cx you have. early ones had a bmc 498 engine but changed to perkins in the mid eighties. just something to check are all the levers for the rams in the off position cause on older machines they can sometimes get stuck causing the oil pump to be under pressure ie is there a lever for a jack leg stuck in the up position maybe.
