    Good news :

According to the poll, conducted by YouGov, when asked to plot themselves on a seven-point Kinsey scale, a whopping 49 percent of British 18-to-24-year-olds, now chose an option other than completely heterosexual.

Because after years of being told they had to be hetrosexual, and that anything else is was abnormal etc., now people are free to be more bisexual and homosexual.
Now tell us : Why do you think that is a bad thing, and who are you to say so ?

Teenagers don't feel pressured into conforming to complete heterosexuality as a norm.

Even when I was 18 back in 2001, it would've been unusual for someone that age to feel comfortable identifying themselves as bring somewhere on the spectrum other than the straight end.

Even if all those surveyed would be more reticent in public, we've come along way in terms of young people accepting their own sexual identity.

He didn't say it was a bad thing. It's not good or bad news, it's just news.

Should we all be non-heterosexual now?

Sounds like a lot of assumption and nonsense to me to be honest. What constitutes not fully heterosexual?

Looks like the fully heterosexuals are dominating the boards poll but you could never say that it's good news......

Yes, a slim majority of UK 18-24 year-olds identify as being completely heterosexual, so naturally heterosexuality will now banned.

Or, you know, we reflect on ourselves for a few minutes and decide where we think we fall on the spectrum, like the participants in the survey did.

Which of the following best describes your sexuality?

Yet the poll states for this age group in answer to the question: 83% heterosexual.

Explain why you think people would lie on an anonymous survey like this.

As a bi 16 year old who's predominantly straight I don't see this as a surprise. People of my age are becoming more comfortable with their sexuality and exploring it this means that I think we are more likely to act on bisexual tendencies and to accept them where as older generations may not have when they were our age instead they may have ignored these feelings and never acted on them.

    Shouldn't even be news.

In an ideal world, perhaps. But this is the kind of thing that helps create a culture where people feel it's okay to come out and be honest with themselves and others.

The more that people are exposed to the idea that not being heterosexual is perfectly normal, the better and I'd like to see anyone provide a good argument otherwise.

In the run up to the marriage equality referendum, I saw a load of lads wearing 'Yes Equality' stickers on their school uniforms. When I was in school, back in the late 1990s, expressing any kind of positive sentiment towards gay people would have been a red flag to a bully.

Firstly, I don't see how one random anonymous poll can really tell you anything about anything...

The anonymous aspect is very important here. People give all sorts of answers on anonymous polls - for many different reasons.

Secondly, your original post is very oddly worded. You appear to be declaring some kind of victory for homo/bisexuals over hetros... like it's some kind of competition.

People's sexuality is not a competition. It's not us Vs them...

I think your post was designed to offend certain people and cause controversy! I find it rather sad when people feel the need to do this... :(

I'm sorry but there is no way over half of a species population is not heterosexual. Unless biology has changed greatly recently, this just isn't possible. I wouldn't trust this poll at all to be honest.

People your age always experimented but now for many teens it does not come with the same stigma, guilt or sense of doing something wrong as it did in the recent past! There are still gay and bi teens though who will never be open about their sexuality or feelings as in their circle it would be seen as a failing or weakness.

The bully's are lost because everyone was wearing stickers badges etc but they will still be singling out vulnerable people because that is what cowards do.

I'm 100% straight, and frankly it is bordering on discrimination. Why do I only have a 50% choice. It's so unfair!

BTW, poll would be more interesting, if a bit long, if it were asked separately if you are male or female to see if we'd replicate the findings.

Who gives an absolute **** in fairness.

Why do we even need to know about this? I dont care and im not the only one who has no interest in the sexual orientation of other people especially strangers. This aint news its just more pigeon holing.

This bollox of everyone needing to be labeled as something now a days is getting ridiculous.

If your gay your gay if your straight your straight if your bi your just greedy :pac:whats the big deal?

The more I read that OP the more annoying it is. You're straight, gay, bi, whatever. Why break it down any further?
Am I still Caucasian in the Summer? Or Caucasian with Hispanic tendencies?

I heard about this , only something like 150 students were interviewed. Hardly representative enough to make such a bold statement that almost half of Brits aged 18-24 Arent heterosexual ..

Also I'm guessing the students interviewed were liberal middle class twats who think that because their gal pals look hot in their new dress that it means They're bisexual.

And as a gay guy, trust me when I say Id be delighted if almost half of the male population were that way inclined but this just simply could not be true! Sadly haha

How can someone be incidentally homosexual? I slipped and a penis happened to fall into my mouth?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,373 ✭✭✭✭foggy_lad

The problem is that young people who have engaged in even a once off bit of messing around even if just watching each other masturbate or even if they get a bit excited watching some gay porn will not pick the exclusively hetro choice even when that will be most likely what they are. Same goes for gay people and that leaves a very high number identified as somewhere in the muddle.

Lol, incidentally homosexual would probably mean sometimes fantasising about the same sex or watching gay/lesbian porn etc . Or maybe even trying it in real life with same gender, but limited exposure.

Most of the time I use ketchup on my chips, but every now and then I use chef brown sauce.

Like that, but the ketchup is women and brown sauce is men.

It's really that simple. If you look at the history of mankind, between the Middle Ages and the 1960s homosexuality was repressed more than any other time before or after. What's happening now is that with the stigma around homosexuality receding, the more natural spectrum of sexuality is being explored.

Well if someone says they're predominantly straight I'd still say their straight overall, they just wander off from time to time. So it's about 70% straightish with still another 8% who are on the "straight" side of the bi continuum.
