Best bike shop (Dublin preferably) to buy cycling shoes

Went around a couple of the usuals today - cyclesuperstore, wheelworx, base2race, but very disappointing choice of shoes - generally, and also for me specifically when you start taking sizing into account. I wonder are shops sort of low on stock at the end of the season or something?

I'm looking for mid to high end pair of road shoes, carbon soled, preferably under 200 quid but I'd stretch a bitín for the right pair. It seems I take a 47 to 48 though, which rules out the likes of spiuk who don't make that size at all (I tried a 47 and it was too small).

Does any shop stock sidi's at all, or mavic's. I've seen some lovely examples on line but I definitely want to buy from a shop, the sizing differences manufacturer to manufacturer are considerable.

CSS had lovely looking "Crono" shoes which I'd never heard of but they didn't have the carbon soled version in my choice of colour or size. :(

Cycle surgery in Dundrum usually have Mavic shoes in stock, though not sure about sizes. I think you can get Sidi in Cycleways on Parnell street. To be honest though, I've found that the selection of brands and available sizes is a real problem when shopping for shoes. I really think you are better off buying online and maybe even ordering two pairs if you're not sure about size. You then send back the pair that doesn't fit. I've had a couple of pairs of Wiggle's dhb shoes before, carbon soled, and they are decent value, closer to €100 than €200. Currently on a pair of Diadora shoes (not sure of the model, but apparently worn by Cadel Evans in 2011) I got at 55% off on Chainreaction, so might be worth visiting their virtual bargain bin.

Judging by the trouble I had finding a decent pair of full carbon soles online for €200 I think you'll find it tough to pick something up in a shop for that price. FWIW I've bought all my shoes online and I've had to send the first pair back nearly always when changing brand. Adds a bit of a delay to the purchase but other than that it's worth the hassle for the shoe you want at the price you can stomach in my opinion. Or you could order two pairs and simply send one back.

Do you courier/registered post them back? And is it expensive?

I know if you buy from Evans and pay with paypal they will refund you the cost up to €30. You need to opt in on the site first.

I sent back a jacket by registered post and it cost me €10 which I got back

Yeah I send them back AnPost registered. Haven't had to do it for a while but probably about 15 quid. But again, I've always been able to judge the fit based off the first ones I bought and never had a problem with getting size right second time around. It's an added hassle sure, but still worth it in my opinion.
