    Hi folks

I;m off to see these two cars. Both same price, both similar mileage below 100000 miles, 2007 is slightly higher spec. Obviously 2009 model is €300 a year cheaper tax. Im just wondering how much difference the lower bhp in the newer car would make? I commute approx 600km a week on back roads and m50. Not a hard driver, take it fairly easy so not looking to be squealing out of junctions either but want something I can overtake in.

The newer one is probably 6 speed and the older 5 speed. The 6 speed will rev lower at motorway speeds and will be more economical. You will need to do more gearchanges to keep the motor spinning.
If they're the same price and mileage then get the 09. It'll retain better value and cost less overall.
Just be aware that there is a noticible power difference. The 116 is quite nippy.

It's all relative though, what do you drive now?

One other thing to add -if the 09 is the same price and mileage as the 07 then one of them is priced way out, beware cars that are too cheap.

driving a 1.6 skoda octavia petrol just now. It's over the 200000km mark though now so going to leave that for the wife and kids daily car, shop runs etc. We decided to "retire" the wife's 1998 Toyota starlet, brilliant little car but i need something reliable and fuel efficient for my 600km a week commute. Will the 89bhp have enough poke to overtake or will it feel a bit of a chore? Like I said I'm no boy racer but my octavia has responsiveness enough for me when I need it. I'd like to narrow down the two cars to view as one is near Navan and the other is near clonmel so can't really see both in the one day.

Just realised the 2009 is actually much lower mileage at 71,000 compared to 2007 100,000. I guess I can put up with a GS model (2009) over an LS model (2007) for that many miles :D

Also, owner of 2009 is lady owner who doesn't drive it anymore as she's stopped working and 2007 is dealer. Am i right in thinking 2009 is still chain belt as opposed to timing belt?

Either will be better for overtaking than your current car so don't worry.

Is there dfp on this 2009 version? Wasn't able to find out.

I'd be pretty certain there is.

The good news is that the DPFs in them almost never give any bother.

Got the 2009 for €6000, super happy, thanks for your advice. No dpf by the way!
