Taking out health insurance

I'm a 29 year old female. I've never had health insurance.

I was recently diagnosed with endometriosis and I'm now on a waiting list for surgery. Also, it's something that I'll potentially have issues with down the line.

If I had insurance, the waiting time wouldn't be as long so it's making me consider taking it out for future purposes. I know that taking an insurance policy out now will have no impact on my present situation/procedure. I'm thinking ahead.

Will an insurance company cover me now that I've been diagnosed with this condition?
I'm going to be based in the UK for the next few years, but I'll be travelling back and forth frequently. I'd like speedy access to healthcare here if I need it, but would it be crazy to pay for cover in Ireland when it's not my permanent address?
Is there a better option for me?

I can't get my head around all of the available plans. Any held/advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to spend time overnight in a hospital in Ireland , its best to have at least the basic cover of something like Plan P Vhi .
Otherwise you will get a huge bill from hospital ( about €750 in a 12 month period ) ,if you have no other cover like medical card etc .

Plan P is about €90 per annum .

Okay, I'll look into it further. Thank you both.

The others will also apply 5 years for pre-existing conditions.

Yeah, I've looked into them and see that the 5 year rule applies to all of them. Thanks for that.

Would medical care/treatment outside of this condition be covered once the initial 'waiting period' has passed?

Yes, after the 6 months any new conditions will be covered. Tbh all the insurers bar Vhi will probably waive the 6 months waiting period.
