Buying a TV from Pixmania

    Hi guys

Looking to buy this TV from Pixmania

    http://www.pixmania.ie/led-tv/samsung-ue40h6400-40-6-series-3d-led-tv-smart-tv/22116619-a.html

Just wondering if anyone has any experience buying something like this from them? I know it will come with an EU plug, which is fine, but will all features work correctly in Ireland? i.e. Saorview

Also, it is €75 for a 5-year extended warranty. Is it worth getting one for a TV, or will my consumer rights help me in case of issues? I know you can in some cases claim up to 6 years within Ireland- does this apply for EU also?

Wanted to buy from Richersounds but they will not ship it to RoI.

    Thanks!

Samsung ue40h6400AKXXU is listed as a Saorview approved TV so you should check the exact model of the Pixmania one. I'd expect if it's same or more recent then it'll be 100% compatible. It will receive Saorview broadcasts but certain non-approved sets and Freeview sets may suffer minor niggles such as the channel order not updating (nothing impacting viewing pleasure).

You could rely on consumer law but tbh cross-border disputes could get messy and you'll be left without a TV while you're trying to come to an agreement. The €75 extend the 2 year warranty up to 5 year warranty seems worth it imo for the piece of mind but check it covers the same conditions as the original guarantee.

Richersounds in Belfast routinely ship to ROI, you could ask them on their forum here on boards.ie

I have bought a couple of TV's from Pixmania. Transaction went very well. Paid for next day delivery. Left Paris at 7pm and by 2pm the following day was in my hands.

I bought of them as well. Good value compared to elsewhere for what I wanted at that time. 2 pin plug but worth that small hassle for the savings.

Would you not get a good deal from where you work if you buy one there?

I dislike the customer care at Knowhow. But its certainly worth looking into.

I did not take an extended warranty. It's down to my personal preference, mainly technology is not made to last anymore. And technology progresses at a fast rate of knots. Now if I was buying a TV that costs nearer the grand mark I would consider it.

My current TV I got from Pixmania I bought nearly 6 years ago and has only had one fault in that time. Got it fixed locally for 50 quid.

I got a commercial panasonic plasma from richer sounds 10 years ago, not a bother on it. This is a model made for use in the likes of airports where displays are on 24/7. Not sure if you can get these commercial models easily anymore. The "home" model was slightly cheaper and a different colour.

I know a guy who used to fix tvs and he reckons they would just be putting much higher spec components in it, I think capacitors usually tend to fail.

You've jinxed yourself, sods law, your TV will break tomorrow.
