Background noise on radio 1 shows

I listen primarily to talk radio, flicking between radio 1, newstalk and today fm mostly. One thing I've noticed about radio 1 is there is an almighty amount to of background noise picked up by their mics, you can quite clearly hear typing on keyboards, typing on tablets, clicking of mice, rustling of papers, scribbling of notes. Because I listen at work I'm mainly using headphones, so it's even more apparent. But for some reason it's far less prevalent on newstalk or today fm. It really grates, surely I'm not the only one who picks up on this?

Morning Ireland in particular I think has too many mics open at once. They definitely have a setup with 6 or so in a circle around a table. This will pick up a hell of a lot of background noise compared to one/two.

They use inappropriate mics, and seem to have no knowledge of comb filtering, which is the hollow effect you get when you have multiple mics open in a studio.

It's easily combatted if you know how, as is the picking up of keyboard, mouse clicks and nasal noises.

It's all down to mic knowledge, which is sadly lacking there, it seems.

You would think our national broadcaster would be able to get on top of this...
