The increase for and IQA when claimant is under 25 is €100. As you will be in receipt of a scholarship this is not assessed as means for JSA. Therefore Your partner should receive €200 and you will have your €230 scholarship... happy days. If its a stipend rather than a scholarship then its a whole different ball game.

    Great, thanks.

Is there anywhere that sets out the difference between a scholarship and a stipend? The money is tax exempt, think its a scholarship declaration exemption form for revenue but I'm worried of some technicality that if it's paid monthly or whatever it is considered a stipend.

If you have paperwork to show that its a scholarship then provide it to sw.

An update. 100% of my scholarship is being seen as means so my girlfriend gets nothing. Hoping to get this sorted out or get supplementary welfare payment, otherwise she is dropping out of her evening course to move back to rural Ireland or Im dropping out of my PhD and looking for a job that can support us both.

    Appeal the decision.

Tried appealing and after a few months it is still a no. A warning for anyone looking to do a PhD on a scholarship with a stipend, each euro is counted as means.

Yeah but on the positive you are going back to college and getting 230 per week. Yee both were getting 200 anyway. So where is the problem.
