How many Kms before I should get new tyres

    Afternoon all, I am currently using Schwalbe Luganos, I am wondering if any one can advise what kind of milage I can put on them before I need to replace them, I am doing approx 120km a week ffrom the start of the summer, before that I estimate there is a 800-1000 km on them

    I've looked into this myself but there are too many variables, brand, inflation, rider style, road condition. Personally I'm on contis gp4000 II and I'm on about 3000km, alot of nicks on them, but touch wood so far so good (bar a pinch flat, my own fault). I'd like to think at least 5000km.

    P.S. I cycle into 'Glassville' (Dublin city centre) everyday so the tyres get a good pasting by the amount of crap on the roads and cycle lane. Proper inflation is probably the most important thing.

    You'll see them going square (Developing a flat on the centre the whole way around) on the back when they start wearing, but that doesn't mean they are worn out, just that it is wearing a bit. If you're getting punctures a lot it's a sign that the tyre is wearing down and the rubber has gone thin. The fronts don't really wear, I tend to put a new one on the front, and put the existing front onto the back, keeps everything in circulation

    If you're looking for an excuse to buy new tyres you'll have to put up pictures, so we can tell you they're beyond dangerous :D

You can have them if you like - I took them straight off and got a pair of Schwalbe Duranos instead. The LBS around the corner from you sold me the Duranos for about 32 each iirc.

    What mileage can be achieved by the various tires?
    It is difficult to answer this question, as mileage is influenced greatly by tire pressure, load, road surface, temperature and the rider. For example, when used in hot weather with a heavy load and on rough asphalt, a tire wears much faster.

    As a general guide, you can expect a tire mileage of 2000 to 5000 km from Schwalbe standard tires.

    The tires of the Marathon family usually last between 6000 and 12000 km. With the light Marathon Racer and Marathon Supreme, the performance is a little lower (approx. 5000 to 9000 km). The Marathon Plus is outstanding with its extremely high mileage of approx. 8000 to 15000 km.

    No useful mileage data is possible for MTB tires because the influence of riding style is too dominant.

    Our racing bike tires Durano and Ultremo last from 3000 to 7000 km.

    This is why I recommend marathon plus to commuters, they cost more but last longer so not so expensive at all.

    I had Luganos on my bike a few years ago. I got less than 1000kms before the rear was worn flat and another 1000 roughly with the tyres rotated front to rear. They were both worn flat at that stage and so I replaced them even though they weren't completely done. There possibly was another 500-700kms left in them.

    I got 10km , a taxi pulled out on me and I jammed on the brakes which where brand new and super sensitive. It ripped the rubber off the threads
