Opinions - Driving test and/or Buying car?

Hi, how are you all doing? I'm making this thread just to get some opinions and advice from you all here, to see what you yourself would recommend and your opinions from your own experience and such.

I'm 22 and I've recently completed all 12 of my EDT lessons, so naturally, the next step in the ideal line of progression would be to do the test, pass, etc, etc.
Why I'm here though is that I'm unsure as to what to do in relation to buying a car, getting insured, doing the test, and so on.

I definitely feel that I'm a competent driver, but I still feel though that I do need a bit more regular practise before any test, to just iron out any minor creases, and just better my chances of passing.

Would it be a good idea to buy a car, and get insured obviously, before any test? Feels like a silly question, i know, but I always had it in my head that after the lessons, I'd do the test and once that went well, get a car and get insured, as you'd expect insurance to be some bit cheaper being on a full license.

I do get a small bit of practice with my parent, just to add, but not quite enough i feel. Plus it's a transit van as opposed to a small car that I'm used to now with the lessons, and the type of car I'd look to buy.

Sorry for the long post, and thanks.

Have you priced insurance on both full licence and Lerner permit? You could be surprised in the difference of costs..

Insurance company refunded me when I passed my test, but I was only 3 months into my policy when I got the full licence.

    Thanks for your replies, guys

@sean1141 - Not yet I haven't, but it's something probably worth doing now so I'll get on with that pretty soon.

@Pugzilla - Interesting. Yeah from doing some searches on this site, a lot of people do say they get a rebate/refund after passing the test. How much did you get back can you recall?
