Good spot. I have had a look at the ABC website too now and it does seem like that the Indo has delisted. If I was an advertiser with the Indo, I would not be happy with that. Stopping people getting access to accurate data.

    Recap from last year ...
    • Irish Independent 112,383.
    • Irish Times 80,332.
    • Examiner 35,026.
    • Daily Mirror 50,263.
    • Daily Star 60,998.
    • Sun 60,711.
    • Sunday World 198,260.
    • Sunday Business Post 34,012.
    • Evening Echo 13,787.

Their figures must be disastrous to pull out like that. The Herald in particular has been dropping by 10%+ year on year, so must be close to going under at this stage. No doubt they'll be shouting loudly about all the hits they're getting on independent.ie, despite its failure to generate any significant income. In any case, who will want to advertise with a paper with no verified circulation figures?

We'll have to wait and see what the conclusion of that is - although its particularly strange.

Yeah, still in shock that they have pulled the plug. One way to bury bad news.

Going back to the Indo/Herald situation, if the reason for their pulling out of the ABCs is down to plummeting circulation, surely questions will need to be asked of the new editorial regime? After all, the previous editor of the Indo was allegedly dispatched over poor sales. Also, the decline would appear to have accelerated since the move to an Editor In Chief and combined newsrooms structure.

I wonder if the delay in the cert being issued was due to an unpaid invoice from ABC to IN&M?

16k of the Indo sales are now bulk copies!

I don't see figures for the Herald (or the Echo) there. Is there a separate evening market section (for all 2 papers, and one of them with circulation of a large parish newsletter:p)?

The Herald saw its sales fall 6.7 per cent to 48,133.

    Evening Echo down 10% to 12,278. http://www.abc.org.uk/Certificates/47265802.pdf

Let the spin doctor 'journalists' come out.

First up is Laura Slattery, the 'journalist' at the Irish Times. She proclaims "Decline in newspaper sales slows down, according to ABC figures". Eh, really? No. In H1 2014 Sunday circulation was down 6% YoY market wide, in H1 2015 Sunday circulation was down 8% YoY market wide. It has got worse. In H1 2014 daily circulation was down 6% YoY market wide, in H1 2015 Sunday circulation was down 5% YoY market wide. These figures include bulks, stripping out bulks, as one really should, the circulation declines in the morning market are accelerating. In any case, saying things are improving is at best misleading.

Next she proclaims "The Irish Times Digital Edition had daily sales of 4,853 in the first half of 2015. This is up 67 per cent year-on-year". A very misleading statement. It fails to mention that the IT did not have a digital product a year or so ago. You can't use YoY comparisons when a product is new. It also fails to mention that the digital price is below the print price and nearly all the digital sales were below list digital price.

Next up is the 'journalist' Ailish O'Hora with this piece of drivel. She fails to mention bulks and she fails to mention the large percentage declines YoY. Pure spin article and disgusting biased reporting with no value attached to impartiality.

The Sindo are at the spin game again with this attack article about the Sunday Times today regarding the ABC numbers. This time the 'journalist' who wrote the article hides behind the 'newsdesk' author tag.

The article selectively presents information in order to influence the reader, fails to mention the Sunday World similar declines and fails to mention growing INM bulks. That said, there is a degree of validity in the sense the that the Sunday Times is rapidly loosing its customer base in Ireland.
