Me thinks the headline is exaggerated.

Edit; More likely the researcher wants his name in the paper to attract funding so has gone balls out with a massive and misleading headline based on no actual studies/data what so ever.

Studys show that being chained to you're desk increases work production 110%.

What if your having a pint and chips in the pub while sitting in the beer garden with smokers? Game over man, game over.

Agree in principle, but not sure why the government should be paying for it??

Unlikely, this isn't news. Studied have been confirming this for the past 5 years.

    Here's a good infographic

I like to live dangerously, so I voted "categorically yes" even though I don't really know what it means in this context.

In theory it could save money in the long term ( I have no evidence for it but that would be the logic behind it).

But really what government ever think of the long term, best you could hope for would be tax free.

Is lying down at work ok?

I'm only a social sitter myself. And I definitely like to sit down after sex, I don't see how that can be too bad for me

Thats it I'm going to tell my boss right now what I think of my cushy office job, hes trying to kill me with all this sitting. Im off to get a nice safe job on a buiding site, lugging blocks all day and hanging off ladders.

    Standing up will cause cancer.
    Thinking will cause Heart Disease.
    Shopping will give you Chlamydia.
Loading the dishwasher will cause Epilepsy.
    Singing will give you ADHD.
Riding a bike will cause scabies.

These are all true facts

It would be a cool option but I wouldn't like to have to stand for an entire day while writing etc

I'd love a standing desk, especially at home for things like drawing. I think a big part of my procrastination is getting too comfortable.

    I don't sit. I recline.

Defo. i've been wanting them to introduce the concept of standing desks for ages now.

sitting down causes as many/nearly as many health problems as smoking.

the exagerated part seems to be in that it's not going to be the same TYPE of health problems, but just as MANY... so technically, they could be less dangerous health problems... i mean, you're not going to get lung cancer by sitting down, whereby you will with smoking.

it's a numbers thing. it's not "as dangerous"... just that it COULD give you "up to as many health issues" as smoking

So if you were thinking of giving up smoking, just quit chairs instead. Awesome health advice indeed!
