My Old Cross pen that I have had for 27 years gave up the ghost today

    Was looking at something else..

Is it worth forking out a couple of hundred for a Mont Blanc

Any recommendations - I am office based so no risk of real damage

Can you get it repaired by Cross? From their website there is a full lifetime mechanical warranty.

All Cross writing instruments and desk set penholder mechanisms are unquestionably guaranteed against mechanical failure, regardless of age.
Any Cross product or part requiring service under this warranty will be repaired or replaced when received at our factory from the consumer (postage and insurance are the responsibility of the consumer, and processing fees may apply). Any such product that is no longer in production and cannot be repaired will be replaced by a comparable Cross product. Leads, erasers and ink refills exhausted in the course of normal use, and emblems and other customised decorations, are excluded from this warranty; also excluded are fountain pen nibs and other parts damaged from impact, unreasonable use or obvious abuse. The Cross guarantee extends our assurance of a lifetime of writing pleasure to every owner of a Cross writing instrument.

I have a Mont Blanc pen myself...given to me years ago for a significant birthday...

Only use it in occassion...because I'm terrified that I'll leave it somewhere...

It's a lot of money to pay for a pen, not something I'd buy for myself. Lots of other nice pens out there for a fraction of the price in my view.

Chaps, many thanks for this thread and replies. Being a young 30 something whippersnapper I'm of an age where 99% of my communication is done online and my penmanship has fallen terribly by the wayside. I'd have random flickering thoughts of buying a pen but not knowing which one to buy, where to go for reviews etc I never gave it much more than a brief thought. Then I came across this thread and voila.... just yesterday I order a Pilot Metropolitan and today two Uni-Ball signo pens as a result of this thread and the reviews on Pen Addict.

I aim to practice my signature over and over so it's at least something of its former glory and not a ghastly scrawl when I'm signing for packages. Once that's done and dusted I'll then see about improving my handwriting in general. It's a dying art so I'd at least like to keep mine alive a little longer.

I use a Cross Century Classic in gold trim the last 17 years or so. An elegant weapon, for a more civilised age.
