Does the rental income from foreign students who come to Ireland to improve their English fall into the rent-a-room relief (up to €12,000)?

    revenue states that:
<<The relief does not apply to rooms that are used for the provision of accommodation to occasional visitors for short periods..>>

Students usually stay about 2 to 4 weeks. So renting a room for 2-4 weeks, would this considered as a short stay (type airB&B) or a long stay (type academic year) to assess if it qualifies for rent-a-room relief?

You'd need to contact Revenue or a tax accountant. This is the slippery slope on where the cut off exists.

It was confirmed in one of the papers(I think one of the Sunday ones, last weekend), that renting to english language students is included under the scheme. As the student is using the place, as their primary residence and not as a tourist

Thanks> I found the article. (sorry could not post the link)

And this was after I rang revenue whom confirmed the same:
Rent a Room relief scheme applies to rental income from foreign students who stay for a few weeks (to learn English in a school).
