bought the 5000 a few years ago and came with a pick up hitch which never worked. hadn't been used with the previous owner with over 20 years. it was missing a rod and will buy it if I think it will work again. it has a super deluxe cab or whatever the one is with the back windows and storage box and the the lever comes up through it. seems to be stuck solid. how exactly does one get the puh to drop. have the lift up full and pull the lever and lower lift? what do I belt with the sledge to try and free it?

I'd imagine you would trace down to the bottom of the two rods and see are the two hooks that latch onto the pickup bar seized, if not, trace all pivot points back up.

nope never learned how to upload photos onto this. tried once but failed and gave up. will spray diesel on it for a few days to soften it out a bit and see then. are th pick up hitchs much good on them anyway? they seem low to the ground?

Saw the same on a 3000 as well was stiff as hell and had to stand on the pick up to push it down.
Found it was stiff at the joint where the bars attached / rotated on top at the lift arms.

When you're making a reply scroll down to the bottom, click on manage attachements
    A new window opens
    click on choose file
    then select the file
scroll the manage attachements all the way to the right
    click on upload

To get back to your PUH sometimes the bars stretch going down from the lift arms, open them off and put a big nut on them, it should lift the hitch far enough to unhook. Is it an original ford hitch or dromone?

If it's an original Ford Puh, get down on you knees , behind the hook. You should see a round 1 inch bar , with a beveled end . This goes into a hole in the puh frame. This is what holds up the puh. Get a bit of a bar a foot long, and tap in that beveled end. The hitch should fall down. Then get WD 40 or diesel at it. There should be a grease nipple on the side , but will probably be blocked.
