Hey I know there's been a few threads about this before but thinking of going there next year.
What's best way to go drive/ferry or fly? How many days would people recommend thinking of old course and Carnoustie but there's going to be min 16 to max 20 can you go into a lottery for that amount of golfers?
    Cheers

it's a long drive. if it were me, i wouldn't even consider driving, unless you were going for a good few days, and probably stop along the way up and again on the way back for a game somewhere.

I wouldn't rule out driving, especially if there's a few of you. Good roads and the car will give you a lot more flexibility in which courses you can play. Edinburgh Airport is about 50 miles (Glasgow twice that) so you are talking about lugging clubs and bags on trains, buses or taxis. St Andrews isn't on a rail line (nearest station is Leuchars) so another bus or taxi needed.

If there's a big group of you, there isn't much chance of you all playing the same course each day (especially the Old Course) so your own transport would be useful.

There's enough good golf in the area to justify a trip of 5-7 days at least. If you have that amount of time I would definitely take the car for convenience and comfort.
