Can anyone advice on a holiday destination in Spain or Portugal. Looking to surprise my girlfriend for her birthday with a week away in the sun. Sun holidays is not something i would have much interest in so i haven't really a clue.

We are mid twenties and would be interested in somewhere you could have a few sociable drinks at night. Hopefully avoid places with young groups drunk and being loud every night although i suppose all places will be like that.

When are you planning to travel? What sort of budget?

Amongst others here, I'm a massive fan of Lanzarote as it ticks a lot of boxes for a lot of people while being as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be.

I have a week off in September so i was thinking in a few weeks time.

Budget wise i am flexible enough.

I flew to Faro, southern Portugal a few years ago.

Was surprised by it, easy to get around, lovely feel to the old town, plenty of choice for restaurants and hotels.

Plenty of places to go to from there as well.
