My car needs lots of work to pass nct. I was just looking on done deal and mazda 6 looks nice and cheap enough. I was looking at diesel 2002/2003, 2.0. Should I stay away or is it a good car? Thanks

I'd stay away, those Mazda diesel engines have a reputation for imploding. Though the fact that it's still alive at this stage of it's age is either skill or luck.

Stay far away from the diesel, they are an awful engine, 1.8 petrol on the other hand is very good. My friend has one (2003) the last 5 years and no hassle at all, we have the same engine in a Mazda 5 and it's very good.

One thing to keep in mind when looking at those cars is rust. Do a good check underneath before buying.
