Allergy testing Limerick

    Hi,

    Can anyone recommend somewhere to get allergy testing done in Limerick. I'm allergic to peanuts for as long as i can remember and have always avoided all nuts as a precaution. Recently ate a piece of whole nut chocolate but didn't react, just slight swelling of my throat. Normally when i eat peanuts, swell up and am sick. I've never had a proper test to confirm. Any advise would be great. Thanks.

    If you search for an allergist, usually what you get is some quack who did a weekend course.

    Ask your GP, they will know they hospital physician in your area that deals with this problem (an immunologist).

    Peanuts - surprisingly enough - aren't nuts. They're pulses.

    So if you're allergic to peanuts, that's no reason to avoid all nuts.

    In fact, I'm reasonably sure that it's not even a reason to avoid other pulses. Can you eat peas, for example? They're pulses.

    And as JohnBee has said; get yourself referred to a proper specialist in the area, not some quack.

    Many so-called allergy/intolerance tests are merely tests to see if you have antibodies to an antigen. If you have, it merely means you have been exposed to the antigen. It does not mean that you are allergic to it.
