Sorry for bringing up another old chestnut, but do turbos go in peugeot as they do in fords esp the 1.6 engine,

On a similar topic how come the 1.4 Diesel engine seems to be a more robust engine?

The turbos in both are prone to failure if they are subject to infrequent and improper maintenance., especially the 1.6. Using the wrong oil and not changing it often enough causes the oil to sludge and clogs the oil feed pipes and micro filters that serve the turbo. You may have otherwise healthy oil pressure inside the engine, but the pressure in the supply and return piles is not monitored so it effectively is a silent failure. A TSB from ford stipulates that in the event of turbo failure, the turbo's oil supply must be measured and must be above 0.3L per minute at tick over otherwise the cause must be investigated and rectified before replacing the blower.

The 1.4 and 1.6 I believe share the same block, and I reckon the larger engine is more prone to problems as it is a more stressed that it's smaller sibling. Any variant with a DPF will work even harder thanks to the strains created by regeneration.

I've got a 1.6 Cmax with that engine and at 143,000 miles, it needs it's original DPF replaced of cleaned. Apart from that, everything else on the car is original apart from consumables and I cite the fact that it gets genuine oil and filters every six months for its otherwise good health!

    +1

Turbos only die from oil starvation.

Starvation is either caused by incorrect oil or the oil pipes are blocked due to gunk forming due to poor servicing.

We have 2 fiesta with the 1.4 engines and service them with cast roll magnates 5 w 30 a1 spec, one is 2003 and 2005.

But with the arrival of gran kids we need more space, so a 307 with the 1.4 or 1.6 maybe even a focus,

    Many thanks

All would be ok provided it can be proved that they have been serviced on shedule and with the right oil. If your fiestas are a five door, I'd be reluctant to dispense with them just yet. My father trucked my kids around in his 5 door fiesta tdci without any hassle :)
