Do I need a Propel??

I definitely want a propel! And I can get a 2015 Advance 0 with Ultegra Di2 for €2300 or abit less but on also from the same shop I can get a TCR Advanced 1 Ultegra mechanical for €1000 less!

I only ride club races/hillclimbs and sportives no real racing them days have well passed, in my head I know TCR would be more suitable and id be perfectly happy with it, but the lust is there for the Propel! I could even go for a better spec TCR and have change left! I also looked at Orbea Orca which is a really nice bike but something about it doesn't sit well with me! Maybe just the colour I tested a white/silver/pink

I'm at the over analyse stage now and confused I dont change my bikes all that often and want to spend my cash on a bike ill be happy with but more importantly feel right on and comfortable. God be with the days we had very little choices of bike ha.

Any help advice or even machines im overlooking let me know! My budget is €3000ish but I dont have to spend it all and Ultegra is desired but for the right bike id settle for 105 and upgrade later, im also open to Sram & Campag

    Thanks

di2, hydraulic disc brakes, full carbon for €3,184, ok that is €184 over your budget. I bought this bike recently.

for €2,800 Di2, full carbon, 6.85kg (claimed) weight without disc brakes:

There would be some shipping costs in addition and I should mention that the wait can be a few months before they deliver. Also the 2016 models are not very far away.

    That's not a Propel.

It sounds like you do need a Propel. If you are unsure, ask your doctor.

Buy a bike you love and it will be a bike you love to use.

    ^^

There are a couple of people I know who "upgrade" their bike every year. Bit like you would do with a car (trade in) but each time getting a little extra added. Like Aluminum to Carbon or 105 to Ultegra, Ultegra to Dura Ace etc

Not sure what their end plan is. Maybe a 14,000 euro Pinarello, eventually?

If you really, really want the Propel and you can scrape together the money, then do it. You'll have sated your bike porn urges and have a bike you'll love.

Hopefully you'll have many years of happy cycling with minor upgrades!

(That's how I justified my last purchase, which I should have in a couple of weeks and to sort of answer your actual question, no I don't "need" it but I so fuppin wanted it! And after 12 months of looking at it on the web, I just went for it. Plus the fact I will be living on beans and toats for a long time will help with dropping the weight for cycling)

    Fugly.both of them

    Harsh! :D

They look OK in Stealth mode! The default colour scheme would not be my cup of tea either tbh.

checkout s-tec sports.de before you buy, you might be able to get a propel sl for a few euro extra plus some decent wheels. Propel is sweet but new s5.....

Ultegra tcr for 1300 ? Second hand maybe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,085 ✭✭✭shaka

By the way way you might want to go down a size on the propel, found myself very stretched out but more comfortable on the smaller size

The bike shop in limerick, 20% off Giant 2015 range atm, TCR advance 1 with ultegra retails at €1800 so with discount, both bike are new,I have bought a good few bikex off him over the years but all the prices are on the Giant website, and I got similar prices in Giant center and tribikes,so no special deal for me or anything id just like to buy local, Even at 1800 The TCR is good value but finishing kit and wheels are Giants own and the wheel dont get great reviews.

do people walk into bike shops and pay the tag price? I have allways got good discounts

Should we put the N+1 rule into the forum charter?

Get the TCR. Lovely bike, more than capable for racing (good enough for the pros).

Aero bikes on sportives makes euro-baby Jesus cry!

    Of course, you need one.
You might have to start using Alpecin.

Will Alpecin do anything for goin grey? :)

To the posters that asked where I got the prices, I checked out several brands and shops in the Midwest and South and got similar prices +-€100ish, the shop im buying from is one of best prices but id rather support him for the sake of €50 plus its handy for other bits and bobs. I find with cash in your hand the sticker price has plenty of leeway in it
I see the Giant store in Dublin is advertising the 20% off bikes and accessories on their Facebook page! Some ok deals to be got but then again next years models will be in the end of September.

Anyway I'll be collecting early next week so I'll be content for a month or two :0)
