They, without much fanfare, were released yesterday. I'm reminded of the Labour aide who let slip "it's a good day to bury bad news'".

    I've done the necessary here

To be honest, I don't see them as a worthwhile metric any more and they are diametrically apposed to the Circulation numbers in places.

Thanks, As always, for the data.

The link in your post is returning a 404. I found the article here :http://www.ilevel.ie/media-blog/print/jnrs-newspaper-readership-2015-14

JNRS is about as trustworthy as kim Jong Un.

Unbelievable how the data does not come under heavier criticism.

Agree with you JTMan data seems very questionable to me.

Example how can IT print readership be up.

The 6 month Abc's are out on thursday - I'-d expect them to show a 5% drop in the market (at least) in that will be big and small fallers and the IT will be afaller, as I expect will all newspapers. The jnrs is necessary for planning - demographics etc - but something is not right in the research if it doesnt reflect or at least support other data.

I was asked to take place in a JNRS survey a few years ago. I said yes to the call just so I could simply understand where the flaw was in their data collection methodologies.

Step 1 was a telephone question and answer session. The questions were lead questions like "what newspapers do you read daily?" and a big list is given. You were then encouraged to name a few. No option for "none" was given. They make the person being interviewed seem like a fool if they say none. I said none and was met with a "none sir?" grumble.

Step 2 was this monstrous almost-book-like document that they post to you with a pen and say they will give you a farcical 20 EUR to complete. It would take a long time to complete. The only people who would complete it would be those with no life, the poor and the impoverished. Also, those who complete it, as it takes so long to complete, probably make up a lot of their answers to speed complete it. I threw it in the bin. Endless chaser calls from their call centre followed.

Data collection in this day in age should be based on actual observed behaviour and not what people say their behaviour is. Data collection methods should use electronic data collection methods. The ABC's is based on actual sales data and is reliable data. The JNRS is a farcical joke of a survey where the industry pats itself on the back with flawed data.

I believe that the questions, the way they are phrased, have a lot to do with the inflated results. I'd say there is a cohort that don't wish to admit they don't read a paper at all!
