    Hi,

Have steering wheel light on, in my B6 passat past 4 years. Had the problem diagnosed at the time and came back as the "Steering Torque Sensor". Car drives perfectly fine and since it was only a sensor I didn't bother fixing it as the fix is a new steering rack. Thanks VW!

Long story short I've bee running it through the NCT without issue until this year when it failed because of the light. The failure was "Malfunction Indicator - Electronic Power Steering". Its a visual fail.

I basically just need the car coded to permanently switch that light off for the sensor problem.

Anyone out there who think they might be able to help or know someone who can? :)

    Based in south dublin.
    Cheers

Wait a minute why did you bump this ? lol

You can't code the problem out, you can clear the fault but as soon as you start the car again the fault will reoccur.

You can fix the problem, remove the bulb from the dash or wire the sensor to not look a fault (maybe) i know which one i'd be doing.

Who scanned the car originally are you sure it's a torque sensor and not steering lock fault that shows up on some B6 passats? which might result in your car not starting one day. (although 4 years is a good innings)

Torque sensor fault = replace the steering rack.

If you don't want to pay main dealer prices (understandable as they want over €1000 just for the rack) then you have other options.

    1. Fit a reconditioned steering rack
    2. Fit a secondhand steering rack

The steering lock was replaced a few months so pretty sure that's not the problem.

No as I said, I had the car diagnosed a few years ago and it was definitely the sensor. There was no reading coming from it whatsoever. It was checked as per the Ross tech procedure. I was told at the time that this is not a significant safety issue. It is disappointing that the rack is engineered this way.

The car is worth 3k so no intentions of paying main dealer prices. I just need the light out to pass the visual and then I'm happy to have it back on etc.

I don't think it's as simple as taking a fuse out. Stand to be corrected on that one though!

Your cheapest way to get sorted will be to get a secondhand rack and have it fitted by someone who knows how to carry out the various settings and adaptations after fitting..

    Thanks George,

I've actually found a specialist who says he has method to get it through the test. He said he might even be able to repair the sensor on the car. I'm sceptical but we'll see! This guy is meant to be a genius with VAG repairs, coding etc.
