I have an set of ultegra wheels and the rims are worn beyond the wear mark, so time to retire them I think. But the hubs are still good. Has anyone rebuilt factory ultegra wheels with new rims on the factory hubs? I have it on good advice that this is not easy or perhaps even possible. Anyone out there know different?

Have a chat with the chap in ashford cycles you,ll find him on facebook if it can be done hell do it. Imo if rims are shot hubs cant be far behind but in any event this chap will give you a price to rebuild

Are they factory ultegra wheels or did you get a set of wheels built around some ultegra hubs?

I went around the houses trying to refresh a worn rimmed set of dura ace wheels and the upshot was bin em and forget em. Get yourself a nice new fresh set. Good deals on ultegra wheels on the web generally.

Thanks for the responses, fat blokes response is consistent with what I have been told so far by my extremely reliable font of info - they are indeed factory wheels.

The factory Ultegra wheels use expensive non-standard straight-pull spokes, where as the regular Ultegra hubs use standard cheap J-bend spokes. you'd normally replace the spokes as part of the rebuild, so factory wheels are usually beyond economical repair.

Plus 1 to that. The lad knows his stuff and he's nice to deal with.
