Car probably not worth fixing. Options?

I have a 00 Merc CLK 230. Engine needs replacing. Good condition otherwise.
    Cost to fix is €400+
    If I fix & sell, I might make about €400 - €500 profit if I'm lucky?
What's the max it'd be worth in working condition?

    Other options?
Sell as is to a dismantler or on Done Deal myself for parts.
What kind of price would I get for it?

What else could I do with it?
I have another car now so don't need to get it fixed & won't be driving it again regardless.

Given the that insurers now consider 15 year old cars to be death traps it might not be easy to shift if you fix it.

It won't help anyway, that's for sure. Would be another reason against fixing it.

Stick up on donedeal and adverts with good info and plenty pics and see if someone needs it as a donor?

Surely it should get cheaper, if they are complete death traps dead people can't claim on insurance

See a good few ads on Done Deal with no price.
Is this a good idea to see what kind of offers you'd get?

If I were to put a price on it, how much could I expect to get for it?

Realisticaly any 00 car with no engine running is very low value often less than €200 and mostly of interest for scrappers for parts .

I had a nice '99 black CLK 200 which for a certain circumstances I was preparing to sell. Market prices for these were already very low but because mine was low mileage and well equipped I was hoping for €1500. Advertised and next morning timing chain tensioner collapsed. Engine ruined. It wasn't economically viable to fix it so sold at the end for €400 to a private person. Scrapers were only offering €150.

Ah bad luck. Wish I got rid of mind earlier too but hindsight etc..
Did it take you long to shift it?

Have mine up on done deal now:

What interests me is, how in the name of Hades do you source a replacement engine AND have it replaced for 400? Or do you already have an engine and this is just for the labor?
If you can fix it for that money and make a profit at the end, you should have Mike and Edd's jobs!

Not really, a week or so and it was gone. A guy came with a trailer and took it.

Out of curiosity, what went wrong with it?
