    They are supposed to be only paying into banks to save money.... Some tin pot dictators in the SW office can do this out of reasons... Did the friend have a run in with anyone in the SW office ?

    Perhaps their benefit changed?
    Illness benefit -> JSA

    (also, there is a 'state benefits' forum that may help more)

    Fianna Fáil spokesman on communications, Michael Moynihan, said: “This is yet another attempt by the Government to undermine the post office network which is the very fabric of rural Ireland.

    He said the Government was using “covert tactics, by issuing letters under the radar directly to social welfare recipients, in an attempt to undermine the post office network.

    “The commitment that was made by Fine Gael and Labour to protect our post office network has been broken yet again.”
    Let's hope Michael Moynihan never sees power.

    Possibly to provide revenue for the post office.

    Possibly to make things more difficult for the claimant, to force them to find a job.

    I thought they stopped paying into bank accounts a few years ago? New claimants all had to collect once a week at the post office. My BTEA went into my bank but in the summer I had to go to the post office for the dole. Apparently it's to cut down on fraud.

    The only thing I can think of is that your friend claimed before the new rules came in and now they are targeting those on long term social welfare.

    It's just a way of artificially propping rural post offices up. Which is a shame because I've yet to encounter one that doesn't treat its customers like an inconvenience.

    I like the way friends ask questions for their friends on here.

    I genuinely have a friend who has lived here for over a decade working part time. He had 3 months in the year where he gets fired and re-hired after the 3 months. He did lose his place and became homeless without address. To ad insult to injury the social welfare immediately cut his welfare. He lost 2 months pay. I spoke to Irish homeless people who get to go to Oisin house and they have no trouble they get the social welfare straight into the bank account!
    Is the system kind of discriminating the homeless couples and foreigners? They can not enter Oisin house and have to go elsewhere for their payment and this is refused if they have no address.
    Can anyone confirm that my friend did get fibbed off and should be given back 2 months?
