Tried them one morning myself. Turned them off when I got home.
Like yourself on the two segments that came up it was two boardsie that I was against. I don't think they had the KOM so it was because I follow them on Strava? godtabh was one of them, Crocked the other.

It's actually just a gimmick as far as I am concerned. Garmin probably get to harvest Strava's segments and Strava don't care because they still have that market cornered but they are now getting out there to a much wider audience than before and maybe even getting a few premium members out of it to.

You also have to "Favourite" the segment. It doesn't just pop up all segments you are going over.

Then you have to wonder about the accuracy. I used to run my phone and a Garmin with two separate Strava accounts and they'd both differ on segments. Garmin set to "Smart" or "1 Second" Mode?

Segments are for fun as far as I am concerned and can provided a bit of useful interval type training!

If you're "into" segments or a few then chances are you know all you need to know already without a toy distracting you AND draining your battery.

There is only one segment I play with from time to time and I know within the first 100 meters whether its worth even bothering to continue with the effort.

I'll get you one day Ryan Sherlock, ya bleedin whippet!

The only thing I use segments for is to track my own fitness. I have some set up so I can see how I'm progressing.

So how does that work? Rather than competing against the KOM you compete against your highest placed follower on strava?

The garmin segments are crap. The strava version sounds similar but you have named competition.

No idea how it works. I'm guessing a lot of it. Won't be looking into it either.

    Sorry!

Looks like you compete against your highest follower or the best time recorded by anyone in a 'club' you are in. I'd prefer if you could compete against your PB or the next best time recorded by someone else.

Failing that, I may just unfollow a truckload of people :D

You simply have to be a little more careful when choosing your "friends" on Strava......

Got to disagree - if they know their place (some way behind me) I'll befriend anyone .....
