I have a tp-link WDR3600 router and while the wifi is mostly perfect, the odd place there's very little coverage. Would a stronger antenna help and if so is there any shops around Kildare or Dublin I could buy one?

It already has competent antennas. Your issue is much more likely to be related to the TX power limit.

Buy homeplugs to cover your blackspots.

If I clone the router ssid will phones pick the strongest signal or will they have to be manually switched?

Just realised I posted this in the wrong forum.

Wireless forum is kinda dead anyways.

If you match SSID and PSK then clients should roam ok. Depends on the device how "fickle" they are. Often they wont change until the link gets really weak.

Probably just leave it so. Thanks anyway.
