Reversing camera

Recently ordered a camera from ebay for my car, have it installed and wired up but its not working,

I have it wired up like so
The red and black wire that power the camera a connected to my reverse light
The Av cable is connected from the camera to the camera input on my headunit
There is a red wire that is conected to each end of the av cable which i have connected to the reverse sensor input on the headunit and the other end spliced into the power cable i have going to the reverse light.
    Does this sound right? ?

So in theory when i put the car into reverse the power should go to the camera and send the power to the reverse sensor on the headunit telling it to switch to the camera??

Any ideas or help much appreciated

Should work I would have thought but I was advised when fitting mine to wire camera to an ignition powered supply meaning the camera is always powered once car is started then just connecting the switching signal to the reverse light circuit. That was more to do with removing noise from camera feed though I believe.
Any chance that you have mistook earth for live and vice versa on the reverse light circuit?
Any possibility that you have to activate reverse camera feed in head unit settings.

Yeah i have switching camera in on the head unit there is one setting that says ground and one says battery

I put it on ground and now the camera powered on with black screen without even being in reverse???

Then i got a pic but it was all distorted? And when knocked in to reverse it goes off, so obviously i have something switched

Could the av cable be piched somewhere causing a bad pic??

I've a Skoda and my spark had to install relays due to a voltage drop in the wiring. It was dropping to 11.7v and the camera needed 12/

A hitch is as good as any reversing camera
