Drove my boss home from work today and noticed a scuff mark on the passenger side door a few days ago but never go around to doing anything. I had a look this evening and found some far more sinister damage, puzzled how this could happen. Looked like the two doors at the far side were scuffed or marked (which I did remove) but the lower arch is buggered. Not pleased at all ffs. I looked at photos from the tracking I done on the 4th and it was fine, I just happened to take a photo of that side of the car. Some people just couldn't care less. No idea how such damage could be caused so low down. I even checked a trolley as I was going to sainsbury's on the way home and a trolley did not cause this.

any idea on what this would cost to mend, (even though different country!)

have better things to do than deal with this shiite.

A lot of that is the clear plastic film peeling off. You were lucky it didn't get the door.

What does look odd though is the bottom edge, it kind of looks like there was a previous repair?

I had a photo taken (by coincidence) on the 4th. I would have noticed a balls up of a mark like this by now.

    Is it dented at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,249 ✭✭✭pippip

It's very low, wouldn't have thought another car. Possibly a flatbed trolley like a DIY store would have?

Nothing more annoying than finding a new scuff/scratch

Kids on skateboards maybe? I think it's time we drop the Lexus thing now! No matter what car it is no one likes seeing this kind of damage done to someone pride and joy.

    Is that an SEL model?

can clearly see, its more like a hammer and chisel job. Not a trolley as I checked the trolleys where I frequent. Was not in any other shopping mall or the like since that tracking photo was taken. Only places I have been to is work and its unlikely to happen at my work place. Also wondering how it happened as its way low down.

    Bicycle pedal maybe ?

Someone in awe of the car got too close and hit it?

It's doesn't look obviously dented from the pic,
Above poster might be onto something. BMX pedal maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,698 ✭✭✭Hachiko

looks deliberate to me, Can't have happened at work - expensive cars and security all over. Too low down also, cant see how it would be another car or even a door.

cant believe someone would do that ffs. Looks too severe to be bike pedal, this is down to the metal.

maybe, I have hardly been out though since I had my tracking done. My parking space at home is private bay and although its useless, that particular side is up against a wall/hedge (posted here before). I only ever go to Sainsburys here and I never seen BMX bikes in the underground parking they have. Chances of it happening at work would be very remote.

Does look repairable, a good area will need to be masked off and it will require a new primer etc as well as sanding off that scuff and probably might need a filler too. Cant see how this can be done for less than £200. Brilliant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I reckon a smart repairer would do thst for well under £200. You won't need to blend the door in as that clear plastic thing will make it way less noticibke if there's a tiny variation in the paint,

unfortunately hampshire is not blessed with cheap anything. I will see how this goes but not pleased with this craic. Some people just idiots.

Would they have been cutting grass or anything near where you park?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 469 ✭✭JBokeh

Anyone get out of the back seat wearing stilettos? Could have kicked backwards with the heel and caught that part, but the paint shouldn't have flaked like that.

Wouldn't really be too worried about what caused it, the damage has been done now, go about fixing it, get a professional opinion, and find out has it been sprayed before, might be worth getting it done properly.

Thats a nice colour, I always thought it looked like a blueish colour from the pics you've put up before

interesting, i think they might have. But my car is parked like this

    hnrzE17MbOEg84f5hR6cwBatumWFhYOYyl1GcwypBZM=w1152-h648-no

I would find it hard to gauge how that damage could be caused by a strimmers or a lawnmower - Which is a very good idea on the face of things.

true, more annoying than anything. No women (that I know of!) have been in the back seat. I sent an enquiry to a smart repair place here, they said up to 70% cheaper than a body shop, lets see on that shall we.

Its Cadoxton Slate/dark Granite (1g0) paint code. People just dont care.

They weren't strimming the hedges or anything were they? Even if there was a lawnmower/strimmer near, something (as in a stone etc) could have become airborne and done the damage?

Bit hard to see from the photos but is that a long scratch under the sideskirt?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,506 ✭✭✭Interslice

Looks a bit like some amateur was trying to lever the side skirt off with a screw driver.

that was there for a while, scratches under side skirts are not unusual i would say.

As for this job, I was quoted £140 plus vat from one place (2 day job) and £60 from another (drop in am, collect in pm). I am going with the latter. I have got that cellophane/clear coat sticker thing that covers the wheel arch from Lexus, acts like a scuff plate or sorts. The rest can be mended.

Not the worst outcome but would be better if idiots were not out there in the first place, if the door was damaged that bill would be a few hundred more.

Ridiculous that ignorant idiots are everywhere.

What's your plan with the clear coating? You are hardly going to try peel the original off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,698 ✭✭✭Hachiko

this is a close up, you can see the sticker thing I am on about, it looks like a scuff plate/protector thing (£13). It just peels off. Under that is the quarter panel (£350 from Lexus), I can get that fixed thankfully.

The door escaped, don't think anyone was trying to take off the side skirt (at the bottom of pic), if they were they should have went to specsavers.

    before

    Xh1tuhBOJGEgJbXIhbt4S7mjNbS74ajSxG7yLSuEA6b0=w538-h955-no

    after

£90 it cost me about inc the taxi I had to pay to get to the body shop and the adhesive scuff decal from Lexus (will put it on in a few days).

The car was ruined with dust after the job (inside and out), but for what I paid I did not expect a valet also. Other places quoted me in excess of £150.

also found LED wedge bulbs lying around and put them into the puddle lights, much better

Maybe if its 1985 pedals would look like that. Majority of BMX pedals these days are plastic. Showing your age with bear trap pedal references!?

I dont see how it could be bike pedals, it took a right bang, the door itself would have been damaged surely? Looks more and more like damage with intent to me. Would not mind but that particular week I was not out much apart from 4 outings,

work car park - usually safe

sainsburys - no bikes in there, never seen one (underground park), trolley not a fit

costco - trolleys too big!, plus they have signs up saying not responsible for damage bla bla bla

my bosses gaff, - could have happend here, his car got keyed outside his place and alot of idiots hang around, not sure why someone would do that damage though.

my own parking bay - designated spot and the side with damage is flanked by a hedge and no room to open a door let alone do damage.
