Maternity Benefit PAYE Employee filling out Form 11

My wife is a PAYE employee and received rental income for 2014, I am filling out her eform 11.
She received maternity benefit in 2014. Her tax credits were reduced to account for tax due on the maternity benefit as per tax credit Cert.

When I am filling out eform11 there is a section for 'Other taxable social welfare payments' When I enter the maternity benefit the tax seems to be counted again.
How should this be dealt with? Am I right in saying this tax was taken already and entering here would mean it gets taken twice?
    Thanks

If the Form 11 is being completed online, then certain things are going to be pre-populated into the Form for you, to make it easier to complete.

The maternity benefit won't be taxed twice. Although the tax credits were reduced in the year, when you are doing the return, they will revert to the full year entitlement, for the purposes of issuing your Notice of Assessment.

    Thanks for the reply.
    I'm a bit confused .
When I complete the eform 11 and include the DSP payments received, the automatic calculation seems to tax me again on these, and include them in the final figure owe.
Surely tax has already been paid on these payments through PAYE through the adjusting of Credits for 2014?

Yes it will and its correct to do so but your tax credits should go back up to the max in the calculation to compensate this.

OK thanks...it looks like we owe a lot more than tax than we thought!

There is some thing I fundamentally understand about the eform 11.

If I take another example, when I enter "Gross Deposit Interest received on which DIRT was deducted" the tax I owe goes up in the calculation.
How is this the case when the DIRT is paid already?
Sorry for all the stupid questions, but I like to understand things, especially when it costs me money

The amount you receive on your bank statement is net of DIRT not gross so you have to gross it up to the total amount and the total is the figure you enter on the form 11.

Interest received into bank account €118
Divide by 0.59 to find gross = €200
    Gross - received = DIRT paid = €82
The figures that go into your form 11 are the gross €200 and the DIRT €82 as you are entitled for a credit for tax paid.
