Dublin FIS listening squawk

Hey, as some of you may know, Shannon FIS was assigned a listening squawk 2655 for those who are listening on lower Shannon FIS frequency, but don't feel like talking to them. There was an article in Flying in Ireland saying that the same will be introduced for Dublin FIS - 0401, there was even a date mentioned, that it should be active from May this year...

few months have gone by but I still see no sign of it in NOTAMs, any idea if and when will it be implemented? It would be really handy given how busy can the frequency get sometimes

It's already in use in the Dublin FIS area, I have used it a few times flying out of Weston to the west.

thanks for that. This is interesting, why would they mention Shannon squawk in NOTAM but not Dublin.. I wasn't expecting inconsistency in this matter.. but nevertheless, good news

I used it a few times aswell when it kicked off, and was then told to squawk 7000.??

Not sure whether this is really effective or not, but most GA aircraft still call 118.50 or 127.50 when airborne. ( I know EINN has their own code too)

Maybe someone from ATC will chime in on this one.

who told you to squawk 7000? Dublin FIS? Was it after June 25th?

I heard someone getting kicked off (possibly you). The problem is, people don't know how to use it. You don't squawk the listening squawk and then call up looking for Flight information, am I right in saying that that's what you did?

I've been setting the 0401, then reporting my squak, location and intention to Dublin and have had no issues with doing so for the past while.

Well I suppose that was the reason to squawk the code so I did't have to call the FIS.

What actually happened I was leaving Weston CTR when I changed the squawk and Weston ATC got back to me to squawk 7000 and contact 118.5.

Same happened on arrival a few weeks later.

Now I suppose I should have clarified it with Weston, as I reckon they were the ones unaware of it, and still insist on contacting Dublin FIS.

Probably my fault I never followed it up to clarify their procedure.

people don't know how to use it

    From the AIC.
aircraft operating close to the Dublin Control Zone and not requiring an air traffic control service are strongly advised to monitor the Dublin flight information frequency 118.5MHz.
    and
Pilots monitoring this frequency should select the Listening Squawk 0401 to indicate that they are monitoring the frequency
    Don't call ATC.
If ATC observe you about to infringe controlled airspace they will call you.

Otherwise use 7000 and only call if you want Flight information service.
