Just wondering is there a set limit on a persons wages above which their partner is disqualified from receiving any JSA.
My partner was told inperson today they did not qualify as my salary is 40k. She was working as a contractor so has no stamps to claim from.
Person at the office didn't say what the max amount of wages was that would disqualify my partner but that mine were too high.

You have 770 per week. Unless you have at least 6 dependent children she won't be getting any JSA.
They look at her entitlement to JSA if you weren't working at all . That's 188 for her 124 for you and 29.80 for each child. Then they look at your weekly wage. In your case 770. They allow €20 per day up to 3 days so €60 so €710 then they look at 60% of that figure so €426 is your means. If you had 6 kids and no job you SW entitlement would be €492. They deduct your means from your potential entitlement in this case €66. That would be your wife's JSA entitlement. If you had 6 kids

thanks for the response, so they take gross pay as opposed to net, not that it would matter much. Hate that you can be working for 1.5 years and not get the dole because stamps have to be from 2 years ago.

No they don't take gross pay but they don't allow for pension or union

It's the same for JSB and disability allowance, not just because she has no stamps - partners' wages effect payments. The thing is that the partner who is earning doesn't get any tax relief to balance it the way married couples do.

Similar situation to you OP while back.

We are living together three years, and partner was on a back to work scheme that provided her the equivalent of JSA. Don't know if it was actually called JSA.

I got a new job that bumped my salary and we made enquiries to the designated contact for my girlfriend who said thanks for the call but no change is required.

We had our first child last year, and as typical with those back to work type things girlfriends contact wasn't renewed and they brought someone else in. GF was moved back onto JSA.

Someone from social knocked around then few months after to advise payments would be stopped and my GF was to send an e-mail to her advising she no longer wants to be in receipt of JSA and we were going to "give it a go".

that payment was keeping our head above water to be honest. 40k maybe used to be classed as a middle class income, but to **** is it now. Over 50% of my net each month goes into rent : /

Agreed, once deductions are made even before bills, its not a huge amount for 2 people.
Same old story, Irish people who have actually worked and contributed in some way get screwed.

JSA is for people looking for full time work who need financial help to meet basic needs every week. If you have at least €700 coming in every week then you don't need financial help. DSP don't take outgoings into account because where you live and what you drive are the result of desicions you made

I don't get anything like 700 a week after tax and I don't drive. Lets say I take home 550, you think thats more than enough for two people to pay rent and bills and live on?

I think this thread has gone far enough.
