Student Leap Card or Adult?

I get the bus once a day in Limerick city centre five days a week. Just wondering if there's any point in paying the massive €12 fee for the student leap card? The bus fee is €2 so that's €10 a week. Apparently the adult leap card would make it €8...would the student card have much more of a discount?

    Thanks! :)

As far as I know, it won't give you any discount on the journeys, but you can use it to avail of discounts in other shops/services.

If they ever introduce capping in Limerick like they've done in Dublin, the student card will likely have a lower cap than the adult one.

Its €15 if you go to a student card agent. Its such a rip off, when any other country generally give you a student travel card for free and students get half priced travel. You have to pay for the privilege of student travel fares here and they are more expensive than a tax saver ticket.

The only place that looks for a student travel card for discounts is Boots. I would wait to see if there is student cap introduced. I wouldnt buy the card until its introduced though, as you wont get real benefits

The weekly ticket facilitates unlimited travel for the entire week.

The adult weekly ticket in Limerick costs €20.20 and the student version €18.20.

It will depend upon how often you use the bus as to whether they are worth getting.

LEAP will offer a 20% discount on cash fares when you use the pay-as-you go epurse.

€15.00 / €12.00 plus €3 photo capture fee]: AIB vouchers (where applicable) are worth €12.00 so it will only cost you an additional €3.00 when availing of the AIB offer from our agents.

It's €10, of which the Usable, Refundable Deposit is €5 and the minimum Top-Up Travel Credit is €5. In essence, the card is free.

    Fares are here: http://www.buseireann.ie/inner.php?id=417
You can use Travel credit on your Leap Card to pay for single trips. Travel Credit fares are 20% cheaper than the corresponding cash single ticket. If you are a more frequent traveller, you can also but the following tickets for your card:

    Ticket Adult Student Child
    Red Zone 24 Hour €4.20 ~~ ~~
    Red Zone 7 Day €20.20 €18.20 €8.30
    Red Zone Month* €69.50 €57.60 €30.60

So, if you are entitled to a Student Leap Card, you would save the initial outlay in 4-8 weeks.

However, if you are working and earning enough to pay tax, and your employer is taking part in the Taxsaver system, this may be a better option.
