NARA takes to the skies!

    From the NARA website;

    IELAND’S FIRST ANIMAL PROTECTION DRONE:
    Due to the generosity of our supporters, we were able to raise enough money to purchase a drone, and get official training for it, so now we will be conducting investigations and producing expose videos regularly, as well as filming illegal hunting activity when the season starts

    Intrestingly enough they have published on youtube a video of thier drone over Charles River Labs
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S402DamAwG4&feature=youtu.be
    Which is in clear violation of the IAA rules on drone flight on the 150 height/500 meters distance and on invasion of privacy . There is only one company doing drone training for pilots here in Ireland.So a complaint to the IAA might be in order.
    This has now ramped up the ante alot in the fact this will involve tresspass and privacy issues if NARA intend to start doing this...
    BTW anyone suggests shooting a drone down,is asking for trouble and firearms liscene loss.Seeing that UAVs now come under aviation law,you might as well be sitting at the end of the runway at dublin shooting at jets landing or taking off as it is the same thing,attempting to damage an aircraft in flight.

    If we all reported it to Youtube I wonder would they take it down if its illegal as you say?

    Reporting it to the IAA would be the better first step; the relevant law is their baliwick and youtube would probably want to avoid being dragged into anything.

    Will give the IAA a ring later today and see what their take is on this proposed NARA action.

    Had a chat with the head of the IAA last week who handles the UAV side of things,and yes this is utterly illegal to fly a UAV over private property without the owners consent or to film anyone engaged in a lawful activity for the purpose of harrassment and outside the view of the UAV operator[500 meters out by 150 meters high].It has become a pretty sticky subject now under privacy and aviation regulations here and globally,and is going to get more complicated as time and abuse goes on.
    Either way NARA are going to be in a tad bit of hot water over this.Espically if they claim to have a "certified operator" of the UAV,who should know this.:P

    I was watching their gofund me for that one and I dont know how they said their supporters paid for it, it hadn't even reached half of what they were asking for. Seemingly costs were covering buying the drone and getting someone trained up how to fly it in the uk

    There was an article on TV3 news about drones, flying them and the laws surrounding them the other night. Confirms everything you were told above.
