Do you have to study law to sit FE1's and to go to Kings Inn?

    Hi,
I'm entering my final year of an undergrad in English and History and would like to become a solicitor, however I am not entirely sure of the process and have heard a couple of different things from different people, so am looking for some help.
Can I go straight from my degree to sit the FE1's and then start my placement, or must I do a diploma or some sort of conversion course before I can do them?
Because my intention was to secure a contract with one of the large firms and I was under the impression that you can go from there with no legal background, is this true?
Also if I can go straight to sit my FE1's would anyone recommend a prep course? Or should I do the study by myself?
I am aware that these are very hard contracts but I believe that I am a good candidate.

Any help would be much appreciated :)

Yes you can go straight from your degree to sit the FE1's. You would need to take some preparatory course before sitting the exams in order to have a realistic chance of passing the exams but you don't need a diploma or conversion course. Many qualified solicitors don't have law degrees.

    King's Inns = Barristers
    Blackhall Place = Solicitors

Perhaps you need to find out a little more about law generally before embarking on a long course where prospects are uncertain.

Have a long chat with any solicitor or barrister you know

Forget anything you may have seen on TV about law.

From what I've heard about the FE1s, I couldn't imagine it would be possible to do them straight from a non-law (or even law) undergrad?
