Google Inc. is becoming Alphabet. Google as we know it will still be Google but any newly bought companies will be under Alphabet. Just a giant ass corporate umbrella

So Googles new holding company is going to be Alphabet....which is the name of a company already owned by BMW...you'd think that they'd have googled the name to see if anybody already owned the company

So anyway...there are some lovely alphabets out there. What's your favourite?

    I like Georgian.

No...but they want to have the same name as an already existing company. If they'd googled it, they'd have known that a company of the same name already existed (and one owned by a large corp, so more difficult for them to push out)

They don't need to push them out, they wont be operating in anywhere near the same areas.

I meant out of the business name, not the operating areas.

It'd be like you opening up a new company called Google selling cars. Cant see Google not taking you to court over it.

I think the only reason they are doing this is so they appear ahead of Apple on top stocks lists because they're usually sorted, ironically enough, alphabetically.

There are already other companies that use the name Alphabet, besides BMW. Google are not trying to use the domain name.

Domain name does not equal registered business name or trademarked name.

Did the Alphabet name connected to Google exist before now? If not, there were loads of things that could have been used. AlphaGoog? Though AlphaGog sounds better.

I've 'alphabetted' AlphaGog and it's an eBay seller. I'm sure he'd appreciate a payoff to stop using the name.
