Apologies for yet another car insurance thread!

Have been driving in my own name for 2 years, 13 YO 1.2L car worth 1500ish, full licence for 4 years, 2 years NCB, 22 years old, no penalty points.

First year, with no NCB, paid €770 with FBD.
Second year, 1 yr NCB, paid €570 with Aviva.

Insurance is up in a few weeks and can't get a quote of less than 850 anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions as to why? Have no circumstance change or anything like that, only difference is I'm 22 instead of 21 and have 2 yrs NCB now.

Only anyway realistic quotes(<1000) were from Aviva and Liberty.

I'm putting aside 1c for every insurance thread on this forum, it should more than cover the cost of my premium this year. :D

Pretty much what Shadowheath said :p, I'm probably a fair bit older than yourself with a longer ncb but even I have seen mine go up 100 two years running from an all time low of 350 back to 560. I'm not shy about ringing around but pretty much every one of the main name came back with a similar number so theres not much by way of healthy competition at the moment.

I'm 21 with One Direct, they quoted the best for me and they ask the least questions.

Will be staying with them for quite i while I think

I did apologise for the repetition!!!

Looks like I'm just going to have to deal with it and put it on the credit card!

In a similar boat. I got my renewal quote and it was 60% more than last years premium even though I now have an additions you 1yr Ncb.
When I rang the brooker up, I got an discount just like that, but it was still 45% increase.
I rang the underwriters and they said they increased their policies by 15%.
Rang back the brookers and they say that it's gone up by 30%.
Final quote I got was 30% more than last year.
Still fuming, the insurers seem to pick numbers out of their heads as they know full well they that quote less.
    A 30% increase is a joke
My advise is to ring back up you existing insurers and ask them by what percentage have their policies gone up by, then add that increase to your last year premium. If your renewal quote is higher then point this out to them and say that you are not happy with it and want it reduced.

Meant to update this, talked to Aviva who I had been with and managed to get a quote for €560, less than the previous year. Was delighted with that so went for that one.

There's a regular poster in this forum who is in the process of sorting out the Irish Insurance Industry. With bit of luck, it might get done before your renewal date. Failing that, ring a few good brokers, don't rely exclusively with online insurers
