So after extensive searching over the last number of days, I've found a car I like, a 2011 Passat 1.6tdi Highline with 220,000kms, Full dealer service history. The car has been serviced on the button. It had an injector failure at 81kkm and cylinder head, T-Belt and pump was replaced

My car is an 05 B6 Passat sportline, 1.9 tdi with 205k kms(less mileage!) and the dealer is giving €3200 on my own

The 11 Passat is on the forecourt for €13k

Am I mad spending €9800 to trade up to a better specced but higher mileage car in the new tax band?

I've driven the 11 car and it seems rock solid, even more than my own

    What do you reckon?

Edit: Apologies, I think this should have been put in the Buying section

Get a low mile one for alittle more money would be my opinion.
After driving this one for a few years there will be mega miles on it and worth nothing.

Cheers, thanks. The way someone put it to me, 'it's done well over 80% of it's life span'

I guess it's back to the drawing board

80% of its life span? I've similar mileage on my superb with the same engine and I'm hoping to go well over half a million KM with it. If it has been serviced and driven right it will keep going

Mind you giving €13k for one would be a different question

But he is considering paying alot of cash along with his passat for one with more mileage and one with an engine that is more likely to have issues than the one he has.

Agree , also electric handbrake will probably give bother as well
plus its only a 1.6, the 2.0tdi would be a better option in my opinion as well.

Can't find the 2.0 for love nor money! I'm looking at an '08 Qashqai SE now with 66k km, 1 owner, Irish car, €7k and my own. The smaller boot against the Passat doesn't really bother me. I'm looking for cheap and reliable motoring
