Cheap sunglasses vs expensive sunglasses

I'm heading on a sun holiday next week and I'm considering purchasing an expensive pair of sunglasses (ray bans) max spend would be €200.

I will be driving abroad hence why I might purchase the expensive sunglasses.

I already have a pair of sunglasses in the car I rearly use, I bought for €10 in a petrol station, which suit me fine for the odd day of sun we have here.

Would these sunglasses be fine for driving abroad or is there any difference between cheap and expensive sunglasses apart from designer brands etc. ?

One they are labelled that they conform to ISO 12312 they have been tested to ensure they offer adequate protection and are robust.

Otherwise the differences are only negligible to be honest and a lot of it comes down to materials used. Once you're only concerned with making sure they offer protection and are doing the job cheaper sunglasses once tested are fine.

For driving however id see if you can get a pair of polarised lenses, however they don't have to be designer.

Like RiseToMe said, once they meet the standards there is very little difference. Polarised is something well worth spending the money on though

Ray Bans used to be sold for a couple of Dollars in Petrol stations all across America. Then a luxury group brought them, took them off the market and repositioned them as a "luxurious brand". They are good quality, but its doesn't justify the price in the slightest.

I am fond of comparing eyewear and cars, a 1990 Micra will get you from A to B, just like a 2015 Jaguar will get you from A to B. Both function fundamentally the same way however there are several differences that make up the price.

I wear sunglasses from all price points, I am well versed on the ins and outs of them all and I would buy certain "designer" brands without hesitation as, I feel, they are worth the price.
