    Hi,

My wife is 50 and a public servant for the last 14 years.

QUESTION:When she get to pensionable age will she get TWO pensions ?

i.e. her public servant pension PLUS the regular state pension that everyone gets.

No, she will only receive one pension. The state pension makes up the base and any difference as a result of length of service and salary is added on top. In addition, she will receive a lump sum.

    Thanks Sarn

    Can I re-phrase my question !

We don't actually care whether she get one or two pensions.

She was told that her pension from the public service would be 20k per annum.

Are we correct in assuming that she will also get an additional €200 (approx) per week as state pension? So in reality she will in fact receive about 20K plus (52* 200) per annum.

    Correct?

No, the pension she will receive includes the state pension. Roughly speaking, someone with the full 40 years service on 40k would receive a 20k pension, plus the lump sum, that's it from the state. The state pension is integrated into the benefit received as she would be a post-95 employee.

    Ok, Thanks again Sarn,

    A follow up question.

I am self employed and have a PRSA.
Will my PRSA be topped up with a state pension?

when you say 'topped up', what do you mean?
Have you been paying PRSI, in order to allow eligibility to contributory state pension?
