I was thinking of buying a newish (2014) skoda Octavia with very low mileage.

It's a petrol 1.2 TSI engine. A friend of mine has told me that the fact that these engines are turbo charged they need regular oil changes and service at low mileage intervals.

Not knowing a lot about turbo charged engines, can anyone advise on the pros and cons of same.

Are there better cars out there in the same category/money as the Skoda Octavia? The car I'm looking at has what I would consider to be a very good spec.

Diesel engine not an option due to low mileage/useage.

    Thanks guys.

If you are doing very low mileage then you should be using a time interval rather than mileage interval for servicing. General rule of thumb I would recommend is that the car gets a service (oil plus filters, etc) at least once a year or every 15000km (which ever comes first).

    Thanks Bazz26, I would'nt mind if it's just a yearly service. Certainly would'nt be doing over 15k a year.

My friend led me to believe that the intervals might be more than that and could prove very costly over the years.

I really like the look of the Octavia and to be honest I have'nt read too many negative reviews about them.

    Your advice is appreciated. JT

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't on a long life service interval for oil changes - such as 20k kms or 2 years whichever comes first. Irrespective, I doubt that servicing Is likely to be a significant cost for a 1 year old VAG 1.2TSI engined vehicle.

With low mileage, an added bonus is that having an annual main dealer service becomes much more affordable as well. If you need a big car and do low miles, you can't go too far wrong with a petrol Octavia. Service once a year would be grand.

Once a year is fine if you're doing less than 15,000 km a year. Even if the dealer says otherwise, I wouldn't leave a car go more than a year on the same oil, modern petrol engines are far more complicated than older ones so they need a bit more care.

Op my other half has a new model octavia 14 reg 1.2tsi. Previous to that she had the last model 11 reg 1.2tsi octavia. Servicing is 15k kilometers intervals or as lads stated already if not doing mileage then yearly is advisable.

The 2011 car did burn a bit of oil alright usually needing one top up between servicing but nothing extraordinary really. One litre of oil between services no great cost. The 2014 new model car hasn't needed any oil top up and she has nearly 30k kilometers on it now so due its second service shortly.

There are two different power outputs on the 1.2 engine one is 105bhp which OH has which is perfectly adequate for the car. The new model octavia also had an entry level 90bhp output which I would guess would be noticable different in driving from the 105bhp model. I've never driven one of the 90bhp models but just be aware that there are two different models out there.

The initial 1.2tsi engines on the skoda from 2011 to 2014 on the last model car only had the 105 bhp output as far as I'm aware.
