Birth control questions (irregular periods and acne)

I'm 15 (16 in two weeks) and I have been considering taking birth control pills. I'm not sexually active and I don't have a boyfriend. My periods are irregular which is a huge inconvenience especially with school and planning things with my friends. I usually get my period somewhere around the 40th day of my cycle sometimes it could be closer to the 50th day but I have got it on the 29th or 30th day before. I usually wear a pad where ever I go after the 28th day incase which I hate doing but I feel paranoid if I don't. When I do get my period it is usually heavy and lasts for 5-6 days. Sometimes it's been so heavy that I skip school.
I also suffer from acne which I am very self conscience about. It's not severe acne but I have been getting it for 3 years and I still don't see much of an improvement.
Do you think birth control pills would be beneficial for me? And if I started taking the pills when could I expect to get my first period? Please help

I find there is great pressure in social situations to dance and people can't seem to accept/understand that it's not something I want to do. Between the constant questions of "how can you not like dancing!??" and people then taking it upon themselves to physically try pull me onto a dance floor "cause I'll enjoy it when I'm there" - I'm finding that I'm starting to dread situations where there will be dancing,

You would really need to discuss this with your gp.
They say some brands of the contraceptive pill help with acne but there might be something else they can perscribe rather than the pill like some creams. I wouldn't go on the pill unless you needed to personally.
Its not uncommon for your periods to be irregular for the first couple of years after getting your first period.

Definitely go talk to your GP. They'll be able to assess you in person and give you the advice nobody here can. It is true that the contraceptive pill can help acne and control periods but the two aren't always inextricably linked. If your acne's bad enough you might be looking at being referred on to a dermatologist. As I said though, go to your doctor and get proper medical advice.

I understand that but I'm just trying to get any extra information I can before going to the doctors as it's €50 for an appointment and I don't want to go and then discover it would be no good to me. I have been getting periods for two years now so I thought they should be more regular now? Maybe I'm wrong though.

My irregular periods are the main reason for considering birth control pills. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't consider it for my acne but if it did help with my acne it would be a bonus

I went on the pill at 16 to help reduce period pains, but from what I gather they can be really good to help regulate cycles. You take the pills for three weeks straight, and then take a break for a week (which effectively becomes your period). I've heard they can help with acne, but that can vary I think. Obviously discuss this in detail with your doctor, but I hope my small amount of info helps!

You need to discuss this with your GP as they will be best equipped to offer you advice. We cannot offer medical advice here on Boards.
